Why should we get our children off the couch and moving?
We all know our kids should be moving. We see it all over the news that it is a problem in our country. Our First Lady Michelle Obama launched her national initiative to help combat childhood obesity in the U.S. Her "Let's Move" campaign aims to offer healthier food at schools, as well as boost physical activity among kids. According to Stop-Childhood-obesity.com, over the past three decades, the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children aged 2-5 years and adolescents aged 12-19 years. It has more than tripled for children aged 6-11 years. At present, approximately nine million children over 6 years of age are considered obese. The obesity epidemic affects both boys and girls and has occurred in all age, race, and ethnic groups throughout the United States.
Some children are active and into sports but obviously something is not right. Not all children like sports. What can you do to help your child stay active? Find an activity they want to do. Make a deal with them. Tell them they can try it once and take it from there.
