Think about all of the everyday errands you have to run, from grocery shopping to going to the doctor, dropping kids off at various places around town, even making home improvements and maintenance and now imagine doing many of these same things in your 60s, 70s or 80s.
For many seniors in Bronxville and surrounding areas, their 'golden years' have been made that much more easier by , a non-profit organization founded in 2008 by residents of Bronxville in hopes of making access to services and the logistics of life easier for seniors.
Executive Director Julie Dalton works full-time for the organization, ensuring that seniors not only get to where they need to go to on a daily basis by providing transportation from volunteers, but also that they can have opportunities to attend cultural and social activities such as lectures, concerts, art exhibitions, organized trips to museums and other special outings.
"With this organization, members can stay connected to Bronxville and the surrounding areas versus having to in some cases, perhaps go into a facility and lose some of that independence," stated Dalton.
"People are living longer lives now and that coupled with adult children who in many cases move out of the neighborhood or even the state, which leaves some seniors with a real need for these services," she continued.
Many volunteers assists with everyday needs such as rides to doctor appointments, to grocery stores and everything in between. Members of Gramatan Village will also take trips together whether it is to a fun day at a sporting event or down to Arthur Ave. in the Bronx for fresh bread, meats and cheeses.
With offices on Pondfield Rd., this local organization has seen their membership grow to over 250 seniors, many of whom enjoy the socializing, convenience and peace of mind the organization brings into their lives, ensuring them that they are looked after and that their needs, big or small, are met.
After all, even Bronxville Mayor Mary C. Marvin has pointed out the many benefits of living in Bronxville for seniors .
