Bronxville "Toys for Tots" Drive is in Full Swing!!!!!

2013 Bronxville "Toys for Tots" Drive is in Full Swing!!!

The Christmas Spirit is alive and well in Bronxville Village!  This time of year, Pondfield Road is buzzing with shoppers going about their holiday "to do" lists, and the town looks like a print from Currier and Ives!

For the third straight year, Bronxville Village resident Steven Ircha, Jr. is heading up, along with Bronxville Troop 5 fellow scouts, the village "Toys for Tots" drive through the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.  There are "Toys for Tots" drop-off boxes throughout the village-Value Drugs, Christ Church, The Eliza Corwin Frost Child Center, Aegis Capital, Bronxville Fitness Club and People’s United Bank.

In addition to the kindness of village adults and shop goers, there has been an outpouring of generosity from his fellow football and track and field teammates, friends, and classmates. This year, Steven is being assisted again by his four younger sisters Sasha, Kirsten, Caroline and Jane. Last year, over 500 new toys were collected in Bronxville and distributed to various children’s organizations in the area.  This year, Steven hopes to collect 1000 new toys for the underprivileged.  He says, "It's hard to believe that over 16 million children are living in poverty in the United States.  These hard economic times have been especially hard on families." The primary goal of "Toys for Tots" is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

"I usually gather a couple friends at lunchtime to empty the bins, and it cheers us to think of how much joy a simple toy can bring to a child.  When we return to empty the bins in a day or two, they are overflowing again!  People have been so generous, and I am grateful.  It really makes me believe in the good of humankind."  New and unwrapped toys of all types are accepted for children from birth to age 18.  Presents for teenage boys and girls are most needed.  The drive will continue until December 24th, so please consider donating a new toy.
