Bronxville Broncos Varsity Football 2013 Year In Review

The football season began on August 12, 2013, with captains' practices led by Senior Captains Declan Borcich, Will Duncan and Matthias Ribka. Two-day practices began on August 19, 2013, and were led by Head Coach Jeff Napolitano, and Assistant Coaches Phil Kuczma and James Salerno. The team ended the pre-season with a three-way scrimmage against Hackley and Saunders. The boys worked hard in the pre-season, and were in great shape to begin the regular season.

The regular season began on September 7, 2013, with a home game against Valhalla, which the Broncos won 34-0 as the defense pitched a shutout. The offense was led by Quarterback Will Duncan who ran for 98 yards and threw for 55 yards.

The team experienced a quick turn-around time, and the next game was on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at home against their cross-town rival Tuckahoe. In a defensive struggle, the Bronco's defense was a step better as they defeated Tuckahoe 7-0. The winning touchdown came on a pass from QB Will Duncan to WR Charlie Tarry.

The Broncos then began a three game road trip against perennial Class C power Woodlands who is led by running back Tyrone Barber.  The game was played at Woodlands on September 21, 2013, and was the best game the Broncos played all year. The Broncos won a classic defense struggle 7-6.  The offensive player of the game was Will Duncan who ran for the Broncos only TD. The defensive player of the game was James McDermott who was in on almost every tackle, making 11 solo tackles.

The Broncos then traveled to Dobbs Ferry to battle their long-time rival on September 28, 2013, where they lost their first game of the season 28-21.

The final game of the road trip found the Broncos taking the trip to Pawling to play the Tigers on their Homecoming on October 5, 2013. The Broncos won the game handily 49-6. The offensive player of the game was RB Patrick Bisconti who ran for 177 yards and two TDs. The defensive player of the game was Parker Lapins who led the team with 11 tackles. The overall player of the game was James McDermott who rushed for 137 yards and also caught two TD passes.

The Broncos were finally home to play a non-league game against Riverdale Country on October 12, 2013. The Broncos defeated Riverdale 43-22. The offensive player of the game was Patrick Bisconti who rushed for 258 yards and three TDs.  Parker Lapins had an outstanding game with 9 tackles including a safety. The formidable defensive line dominated the line of scrimmage led by Steven Ircha, Declan Borcich, and Luke Geiling who each recorded a sack and a plethora of tackles.

The final regular season game was homecoming under the lights on October 19, 2013, against Haldane. The team was primed to put on a good show as the seniors played their last home game of their high school careers. The Broncos came out ready to play and easily defeated Haldane 41-18.

The regular season ended with the Broncos having a 5-1-league record and an overall record of 6-1, which was very successful.

The Broncos were now on to the Class C Sectional semi-final as the number three seed and would have to travel to meet the number two seed Rye Neck who was undefeated. The Broncos came out with intensity and took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a run from Patrick Bisconti. The defense held Rye Neck to one TD in the second quarter, and the half ended with the Broncos in the lead 7-6. The Broncos opened the third quarter with a 37-yard field goal by Owen Jones that gave the Broncos a 10-6 lead halfway through the third quarter. The Rye Neck offensive line took over from there, wearing down the Broncos defense and scoring 22 unanswered points to win the semifinal 28-10.
