Weekly Sports Round-Up: Bronxville Girls Roll Toward Playoffs

Devlin leads Broncos basketball team to a 10 - 3 regular season record.

With the Section 1 playoffs approaching, Grace Devlin led a balanced offense and the Bronxville girls’ basketball team continued to play strong defense as they rolled to a 10-3 regular-season record. 

Devlin scored nine points and eight Broncos’ players contributed to the scoring for a 36 -20 win over Edgemont on Feb. 7. Devlin then scored 12 points and teammate Kristen Noon added nine in a 43-28 victory over Rye Neck on Feb. 12 to finish the week.

Boys’ basketball

Pelham 72, Eastchester 41: The Pelicans outscored the Eagles 24-2 in the third quarter to run away with the victory in a Feb. 7 game played in Pelham. Joe Ryan and Michele Scarpa each scored nine points for the Eagles. Keyshawn Stallworth led Pelham with 17 points.

Eastchester 50, Solomon Schechter 38: Dave Solano scored a game-high 31 points and the Eagles jumped to a 15-4 first-quarter lead en route to the win on Feb. 8. Joe Ryan added 10 points for the Eagles.

Eastchester 79, Leake & Watts 58: In a Feb. 11 game, Dave Solano again led all scorers with a season-high 33 points and teammates Michel Scarpa and Joe Ryan had 17 and 15 points respectively for the Eagles.

Eastchester 56, Bronxville 42: The Eagles topped their Broncos neighbors on the strength of Dave Solano’s 24 points in the Feb. 12 victory. Joe Ryan contributed 11 points for Eastchester, which finished the week with a season record of 14-4. Matt Tormey scored 10 for Bronxville, which now stands at 5-12 on the season.

Bronxville 50, Edgemont 42: In a game played on Feb. 8, Jack Near scored 12 and Matt Tormey added 10 points for the Broncos in the victory. Luke Marrone hit three 3-pointers for Bronxville.

Hastings 53, Bronxville 38: Gibbs Lilly led Bronxville with 10 points in the Feb. 11 loss.

Tuckahoe 82, Solomon Schechter 40: Mark Raymond scored 15 points and had nine rebounds to lead Tuckahoe as all 13 Tigers scored at least two points in the Feb. 7 win. Tuckahoe rested its starters against the weaker opponent.

Dobbs Ferry 75, Tuckahoe 65: The Tigers lost for only the third time this season as the Eagles used a 17-6 second quarter run to open a 33-22 halftime lead in the Feb. 11 game. Shyheim Nixon led Tuckahoe with 16 points and Sky Williams had 13.

Pelham 83, Tuckahoe 74: The Tigers dropped their fourth game of the season and third in the last week despite 24 points by Jason Feuer and 20 by Sky Williams in the Feb. 12 game. Tuckahoe’s record stands at 14-4 entering the final week of the regular season. Feuer’s 3-pointer at the end of regulation sent the game into overtime, but the Eagles outscored Tuckahoe 16-7 to earn the win.

Girls’ basketball

Pelham 42, Eastchester 35: Gabrielle Pinto and Adriana Rosales each scored 10 points for Eastchester in the Feb. 7 loss.

Eastchester 36, Solomon Schechter 13: Christiana Galella, Adriana Rosales and Hannah Kutzin led a balanced Eagles offense with six points each in the Feb. 8 win. The Eagles opened a 12-1 lead after one quarter.

Tuckahoe 33, Solomon Schechter 27: The Tigers outscored the host 20-10 in the fourth quarter to earn the win on Feb. 7.

Ice hockey

Eastchester/Bronxville/Tuckahoe 10, Pelham 4: Goaltender Lucas Berger stopped 20 shots on goal to lead the tri-team defense in the victory over the Pelicans on Feb. 8. Mark Luciano and Ian Palfrey each scored a three-goal hat trick for the locals; Angus McClean had two goals and Frankie Sherding and Adam Srebnik each added a goal for the winners. The tri-team is 11-5 and headed for postseason play.
