Track Phenom Mary Cain Breaks More Records: Media Reports

Bronxville High School junior Mary Cain broke two track records June 1 in an international meet in Oregon.

Cain’s time bested the national high school mark and the national junior record of 2:00.07 set by Kim Gallagher in 1982. Gallagher went on to win two Olympic medals, according to The Journal News/LoHud.com.

According to oregonlive.com, Cain has won over fans at the Prefontaine Classic track and field meet in Eugene. The Oregonian quoted her: "'I'm just so thrilled,' Cain said after shattering the 31-year-old high school record in the 800 meters and crashing through the two-minute barrier to place fifth in 1:59.51. 'I broke two minutes. I was thinking before the race 'No one's ever done this before. I'd be the first one to do it and that's been my dream since eighth grade.''"
