Tigers Roll Over Pine Plains in State Regional Semifinal

Williams scores 32 points to lead Tuckahoe; Nolan, Feuer, Garabitos fuel Wednesday night's win.

Sky Williams repeated his most recent performance, scoring 32 points for the second straight game to help lift Tuckahoe to an easy 91-64 victory over Pine Plains in the Class C state regional semifinal played at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh Wednesday night.

Tuckahoe (19-3), the Section 1 champion, next plays Friends Academy, the Section 11 representative, this coming Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Long Island’s Farmingdale State College in the state regional final.

Williams, who scored 32 points in the 69-59 Section 1 Class C championship game victory over Haldane, was by no means a one-man show as the Tigers’ defense once again set the tone for the game forcing play and making a dozen steals to ignite the offense. Justin Nolan added 17 points to the offense and six rebounds, Justin Feuer had 16 points and Kevin Garabitos scored 14.

“Hey, I feel like we played Tiger basketball tonight,” Feuer said. “Even though we played a very tall team we used our foot-speed as an advantage. Saturday should be interesting, it’s the team that knocked Tuckahoe out of the regional tournament two years ago, so it’s payback.”

Tuckahoe pulled away from Pine Plains (15-7) late in the first quarter and into the second by outscoring the bombers 21-2 in a flurry of offense.

The Tigers also used their quickness to handle the bigger Bombers–who boasted a front line of players 6-foot-8, 6-6 and 6-4–holding the big three of brothers Tyler and Zachary Lydon and Robert Lamont to 38 points between them.

Shyheim Nixon, who has added a spark to the Tigers’ offense, handed out a game-high 10 assists, Feuer had eight assists and Williams and Nolan each had five as the Tigers shared the ball on offense.
