Ready, Set, Run: Pre-register your 3rd – 6th Graders for June 1 Track Meet

Running events include 50 meters, 100 meters and 200 meters.

Whether you have a track star on your hands, or just an elementary or middle schooler who loves to run, they're invited to participate in the Community Track Meet, which is set to take place on June 1.

"Although, this is not the first year a meet is being held in the Town, it has not been held in the past few years," says Susan Snyder, CPRP the Superintendent of Recreation for Eastchester. "A member of our Recreation Advisory Committee, Vince Forte, told me last fall that he would like to bring the track meet back, and with me being a former high school and college competitor, and a current masters competitor, I wholeheartedly agreed."

The event, which is sponsored by the Town of Eastchester and the Eastchester School District, is open to students in Eastchester, Tuckahoe or Bronxville who are in grades 3 – 6.

Each participant can register for two of the three runs offered: 50 meters, 100 meters and 200 meters. (Note: 200 meters is only open to 5th and 6th graders.) It costs $5 to participate, with medals awarded to winners.

"Our community offers so many opportunities for sports for children, but track and running has not been one of them. I would like to help change that. My hopes are to expose children to a wonderful sport and activity for life, show them how much fun it is to compete, and hope they continue for many years to come," says Snyder.
