Patch Predicts: Football Week 7

Bronxville-Tuckahoe finally meet on Saturday.

Congratulations to the Eastchester Eagles, who showed they had not given up on their season when they upset playoff-bound Roosevelt 33-25 and celebrated a thrilling homecoming victory, giving Patch only its second missed prediction of the season. Great job by the underdog Eagles.

Bronxville and Tuckahoe remained unbeaten at 6-0 and true to form heading into Saturday's big showdown game with the Broncos visiting Tuckahoe. Patch went 2-1 this week—but now the season finale and playoff games begin and the forecasting gets tougher.

Bronxville (6-0) at Tuckahoe (6-0): Here it is–the game both teams have been looking forward to all season. This battle of neighboring rivals might be a little easier to pick if the Broncos weren't saddled with so many injuries to important players: two-way linemen Kieran Borcich and Elliot Bartsch joined last year's quarterback Jack Near–recovering from off-season surgery—on the sidelines last week. The Broncos struggled early but delivered a big 32-14 win against long-time rival Dobbs Ferry without three of their top players. This game is a pick-em – the Broncos are banged up but may play their injured players in this one. Bronxville destroyed the Tigers 40-0 last year—and the Tigers remember each point and are looking to go into the Class D playoffs on a high note by avenging that loss.

Bronxville, the Class C favorite in the playoffs, is vulnerable to the Tigers' quickness, but the Tigers have a habit of making mistakes and suffering lapses. If Tuckahoe doesn't turn the ball over and the high-scoring offense can utilize its speed, this could be an upset. Look for the Broncos to control the ball on the ground on offense with quarterback Dillon Mitchell and running back Christian Conway handling the attack. Ryan Hackett poses a threat from his wide-out spot for the Broncos. On defense, Bronxville will try to stop the run and force the Tigers to pass the ball. Tuckahoe will try to turn the corners with quarterback Kevin Garabitos running back Luis Esquilin–and run inside with Jarrett Sommer and Gary Jennings, two bigger backs. A tough one to call, but Bronxville has the edge with its size if all the big men are healthy.

Prediction: Bronxville 22, Tuckahoe 20.

Eastchester (3-3) at Lakeland (2-4): The season will be brighter for the Eagles if they can take this one on the road–a playoff bid is gone but pride remains. Quarterback Tom DiCarlo has been a strong leader on a team that suffered several key injuries. The Eagles have been in every game through a tough schedule that included playoff teams Rye, Nyack and Roosevelt, a 4-2 team that the Eagles upset 33-25 last week at homecoming. Rob Carinci's return from injury has given the backfield a big left—the lead back ran for 152 yards and three scores last week and should be a big factor against Lakeland. Look for the Eastchester offense to run free against a weak Lakeland defense that has allowed 122 points in six games (21 per game). Chris Gulotta kicked two field goals last week in the win over Roosevelt, giving the Eagles an added weapon to use in close games. Lakeland lost a 37-20 decision to a strong Somers team last week, but has the ability to score.

Prediction: Eastchester 27, Lakeland 14.
