Gryphons Fall to York

In the Gryphons' season opener, Sarah Lawrence College men's soccer was defeated by York College (N.Y.), 4-0, in a non-conference game at Fleming Field on Thursday.

After 15 minutes of back-and-forth play, York (1-0) got on the scoreboard first when Rachidi Amadou sent a blazing crossing pass into the six-yard box. The effort found the foot of an SLC defender and deflected into the goal for the game's opening score.
Just over a minute later, Cardinals Rohan Burrell and Andre Adelson teamed to circumvent the Gryphon back line and netted a second goal for the visitors.

Amadou scored another goal midway through the second half, and York's Brandon Yotagri rounded out the scoresheet with a deep shot in the 90th minute.

The Gryphons were held to just one shot on the day, a high attempt by senior Rodrigo Cuenca (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day). In goal for SLC, junior keeper Elliott Warkus (Waimea, Hawai'i/Parker School) recorded 12 saves in the game.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action in a trip to nearby Lehman College on Saturday. Action begins at 2 p.m., and fans can follow the action with Live Stats courtesy of Lehman.
