Daily Sports Digest: Both Bronxville Soccer teams win in overtime

While the high school playoffs are heating up around the area one local college athlete is setting the record book ablaze. Brenna White of Mercy College is a freshman on the school’s volleyball team and while other first year players are fighting for minutes and playing time White has the opportunity to break a school and possibly an NCAA record.

Yesterday as White and the Mavericks defeated Molloy College in four sets the freshman recorded a career high of 31 kills, giving her over 600 on the season. No Maverick has reached the mark in a decade, and already White ranks third all time in Mercy history for a single season. With games left on the schedule she could find herself with the all time mark in no time.

White also leads all divisions in the NCAA with 611 kills on the year, and no freshman has ever finished the season with that distinction. Could make for a historical season for the Mercy freshman.

Highlights: Bronxville’s lone goal came from Jessica Tarangioli in the second overtime. Grace Devlin had five saves in the win.

Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: North Salem @ Bronxville

Score:  Bronxville Won 0-0 (2OT) 5-3 (PK)

Highlights: Jack Connors led the way for Bronxville defense with seven saves as thee Broncos won in penalty kicks.

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Eastchester @ John Jay

Score:  John Jay Won 1-0

Highlights: John Jay won on a second half goal. Sara Doyle had nine saves in the loss.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Ardsley @ Eastchester

Score:  Eastchester Won 3-1

Highlights: Eastchester won in for sets thanks to Catherine Manning and her 15 kills. Amy DePippo also had seven kills and 12 assists.

Sport: Boy’s Soccer

Game: Tuckahoe @ Hamilton

Score:  Hamilton Won 2-0

Highlights: Hamilton found two first half goals that was enough to beat Tuckahoe. In the loss Matt Stupple had 24 saves.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Hamilton @ Tuckahoe

Score:  Hamilton Won 3-0

Highlights: Tuckahoe was swept 25-18, 25-21, and 25-18.
