Daily Sports Digest: Athletes Prepare for a Busy Weekend

The United Way of Putnam and Westchester counties is hosting the third annual run united, a 5k run for health at Purchase College.

The Proceeds are to support initiatives to reduce childhood obesity, get healthy foods to low income families, and steer teens away from risky behaviors like drugs and alcohol. People of all ages are encouraged to participate.

According to the press release, registration begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the Toddler Dash at 8:30, the 5K Run at 8:45 and the 1-Mile Run/Walk at 8:55 a.m.  A half-hour awards ceremony takes place from 10 – 10:30 a.m. Toddlers and 1-Mile participants will receive ribbons, and 5k runners can win awards in age and gender categories.

Bronxville will be back in action for the playoffs this weekend. The cross country state championships will be held in Verona at 9 am tomorrow morning. Bronxville’s field hockey team will take on Webutuck at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome tomorrow at 4 p.m. and the girl’s soccer team will take on the winner of Spackenkill/Oneonta at noon at Yorktown High School.
