Clippers Players Receive High Honors

Concordia's Gonzalez was selected as the Second Team first baseman while sophomore Fiorito was selected as the Second Team designated hitter.

Daktronics, an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition, recently announced their 2013 NCAA Division II Baseball All-East Region Teams on Thursday afternoon. Concordia College Senior Luis Gonzalez (Carmel, N.Y.) was selected as the Second Team first baseman while sophomore Cristian Fiorito (Yonkers, N.Y.) was selected as the Second Team designated hitter.

Gonzalez was recently named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) First Team and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year. He was also named to the All-CACC First Team as the league’s top first baseman after being named to the All-CACC First Team in 2012 and 2011.

Luis finished the season 2nd in the CACC for batting average (.369), doubles (18), total bases (87), on-base percentage (.487), and 3rd in slugging percentage (.554). Gonzalez was also 4th in walks (27), 5th in home runs (3), 7th in hits (58) and 9th in RBI’s (30).Within the NCAA Division II East Region Luis was 7th in batting average, the only region in DII which uses wood bats. Prior to the season beginning he was a NCBWA Division II Preseason All-East Region Second Team selection.

Fiorito was recently named a NCBWA All-East Region Second Team selection and an All-CACC First Team selection as a designated hitter. He led the CACC in home runs (9) and slugging percentage (.611) as he was one of the most feared batters to face in 2013.Cristian was also 3rd in RBI’s (34), 5th in total bases (77), and 13th in runs (31) and was a CACC Player of the Week selection on April 1st. Currently Fiorito is ranked second in the East Region in home runs.
