Bronxville Girls Field Hockey Loses to John Jay in Season Opener

The Lady Broncos' fell to John Jay 4 to 1 on Wednesday afternoon, but had an impressive second half showing.

In their season opener the Lady Broncos struggled both offensively and defensively to move the ball and protect their goal against their opponents John Jay.

In the first half, Bronxville was outscored 3 to 0 as John Jay ran away with the game early on. The highlight of the half was a tremendous blocked shot by #7 Katie, which shifted momentum in the Broncos favor. But the team struggled to score after three possessions near John Jay's goal.

After a frustrating first half, Bronxville entered the final half of the game with a lot more aggression and energy. The Broncos' offense was ignited as they scored their first goal of the game just-under 28 minutes into the second half. With the score at 3 to 1, the lady Broncos displayed a much-improved defensive strategy and more fight. Their energy was renewed as they rallied to come from behind and possibly win the game.

With close to five minutes remaining, the Broncos had effectively shut out John Jay's offense—which had looked invincible in the first half, but now hadn't scored one point in the second. But with less than two minutes to go, the Bronxville girls let one sneak past them on a perfectly executed offensive play that put John Jay up 4 to 1.

In the end the Broncos fell to John Jay 4 to 1—but the second half showed the kind of determination and guts that any head coach would be proud of. With their first game under their belts, the Bronxville girls field hockey team looks poised to having an impressive season if they play anywhere close to their second half performance.
