Broncos Fall to Pleasantville Panthers in Quarterfinal Game

Bronxville baseball team lost to Pleasantville 9 - 2 in Saturday's game at Pace University.

The Bronxville Broncos baseball team was riding high coming into Saturday's game against the Pleasantville Panthers.

Bronxville was coming into the game fresh off a one-run win over Nanuet in which they came back from being down four runs. The Broncos were hoping the momentum would continue against the No.1 seeded Panthers.

Bronxville got off to a quick start, but the Panthers powered their way back and erased the early deficit en route to a 9-2 victory over Bronxville in yesterday's Section 1 Class B quarterfinal game at Pace University.

The Broncos scored their only two runs of the game in the top of the first inning as they got a quick junp on Pleasantville pitching ace Andrew Lizardi. Christian Conway and Jackson Conway each scored on a Dylan Mitchell triple for Bronxville in the inning but that would be all the runs they would be able to generate.

Lizardi showed from the second inning on why he is the Panthers' ace as he kept the Broncos off balance at the plate, and even mustered up a couple one-two-three innings along the way. Even when the Broncos did get men in scoring position, Lizardi was able to get out of the inning unscathed as he went on to throw a complete game in the win.

"We knew coming into the game that they were fresher than us since they had the bye and we had a game yesterday, but we were trying to ride the wave of emotions from yesterday game," said Bronxville coach Anthony Vaglica, "I thought we did a good job of that in the first couple of innings, but I knew the story would be whether we could sustain it or not for seven innings and unfortunately we weren't able to."

He continued, "You have to give their pitcher credit. After the first inning he settled down and kept our guys guessing and that's why he's their number one pitcher. We do have a young group of guys for the most part so I was proud of the way we came out and battled until the last out."
