According to Dr. Belgrade, the office décor of Smiles Under the Sea is epitome of a child’s fantasy, as there are colorful murals with characters of the ocean painted on the walls with large televisions where they can play educational video games or watch cartoons.

“The office is magical,” adds Dr. Belgrade. “I feel like a mermaid when I am there.”

Children usually associate dentists with medical doctors, so it was important for both Dr. Boiano and Dr. Belgrade to create a welcoming environment so that they can overcome their fears.

“I myself had a very bad experience when I was living in Russia when I was a child and I decided no child or person will go through that experience again, which is why I became a dentist.” The ability to teach patients the right habits and principles – it’s rewarding to know that you made a difference in someone’s life.”

According to Dr. Belgrade, children should start visiting the dentist by their first birthday or when their first teeth so that both children and parents can be taught healthy dental habits like brush twice a day, flossing and eating the right food.

“Childhood is the best time to instill good habits in children, says Dr. Belgrade. “I think I am the right person for that because I have the patience and I love working with children and develop a relationship with them and take away their fears.”

Smiles Under the Sea offers the latest technology like lasers, treatments under sedation and other modalities that will minimize children and parental anxiety. “The office is also centrally located near the school and we welcome all emergencies,” adds Dr. Belgrade.
