Ask avid runner Mike Di Blasi, manager of the Bronxville Running Company, what’s the hottest product currently in Pondfield Road store, and without hesitation he points to the fancy device strapped to his wrist.
“The new Garmin GPS watches,” he says. “It’s the first time in a while that Garmin has updated them, and now they come with new statistical information that they didn’t have before.”
Not only can the $400 watches ($450 with a separate heart rate monitor) track the route you’re running in real time, they also monitor your cadence, ground contact time and vertical oscillation all without separate sensors.
Di Blasi says the watches are becoming popular with some of the runners who participate in the store’s weekly group runs on Wednesdays and Sundays, but that’s not the only thing the shop is selling these days heading into Black Friday and the busiest shopping season of the year.
High tech clothing is also very popular, particularly with the brisk fall temperatures. Jackets by The North Face and other brands take the chill off of cold morning runs with ease.
“The thing we emphasize is that this season a lot of the clothing is totally windproof, in many cases up to gusts of 60 miles per hour, so that you can remain comfortable throughout your entire workout,” he says.
