Eastchester residents will go to the polls Thursday to vote on a $1.9 million bond measure for improvements to the school district’s turf field and facilities.
The main component of the vote is funding to replace the field. According to school district officials, the current turf field has exceeded its life expectancy and is no longer usable due to “exposed seams and worn surfaces.”
The field is currently closed, but the track encircling it remains open. Students in both middle school and high school have used the field extensively, in addition to local sports teams and the Town of Eastchester summer camp program.
Officials estimate that the $1.9 million bond will cost each homeowner roughly $30 per year for 15 years. Earlier this fall, the voters in nearby Hastings-on-Hudson rejected a similar - but more costly - school renovation bond project that also included improvements to that district’s sports fields.
The polling site for Thursday’s vote will be at the high school gym, and polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. All registered voters, except those who live on Garth Road, can vote at the high school. Garth Road residents must vote at the 235 Garth Road Community Center.
Registrants voting at the high school are asked to enter the gym from Lincoln Avenue, where attendants will be able to assist with directions and parking. All other doors to the high school will be locked.
