Eastchester Students' Works on Display at Concordia

Eastchester High Schools students took part in an oil residency program. Now, their works are on display.

Eastchester High School students took part in a special oil painting residency program this fall. Now, some of those works from the program are being displayed at Concordia College.

Artist Leah Lopez spearhead the program. Lopez teaches at the New York Academy. She has been represented by galleries in Pasadena, Santa Fe, Oklahoma City and Bronxville, to name a few.

Lopez' residency program was comprised of seven sessions. Students concentrated on still life painting with oils. The program began with demonstrations back in November. The students then began painting themselves. They worked in controlled lighting setups and painted the drama of lights and darks, in the Old Master style. The students who participated in the program were in the Drawing & Painting, Advanced Studio and Portfolio Preparation Art/AP classes.

Lopez' residency was funded by the High School PTA and the Eastchester Schools Foundation.

The students' works from the program can be seen at the OSilas Gallery at Concordia College through January 27. The students whose work is on display are: Olivia Hughes, Raylla Chan and Jung Park. The gallery's hours are as follows:

Tuesday – Friday 12-5 p.m.
Thursday – 12-7 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday – 2-5 p.m.
