Bronxville Continues Performance Review Plan

Bronxville School District officials have decided to continue its Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) plan. The plan was put together last year in response to state regulations which require districts assemble a teacher evaluation system. The Bronxville Teachers Association recently agreed to extend the current evaluation plan through the 2013-2014 school year.

"We are at the early stages of this approach," said Bronxville School District Superintendent David Quattrone. "We haven't even gone through a complete cycle yet, so it is difficult to know its impact and what we might want to change.
The Annual Professional Performance Review combines teachers observations with local and state testing results. Superintendent Quattrone says implementing the review plan has been daunting.

"This year we wanted to make sure that the establishment of formal student learning objectives did not detract from teachers' willingness to innovate," said Quattrone. "I think we have been largely successful on that score, but we still need to work on how to make sure these objectives and their measures are well understood and meaningful to the faculty."

Bronxville's superintendent is set to ask the Board to endorse the renewal of the APPR plan at the July reorganization meeting.
