Voters Head Out For Election Day

All three communities are seeing strong voter turnout through midday on Election Day 2011

Voters hit the polls beginning at 6 a.m. this morning and since then, many polling locations have reported strong voter turnout, despite the fact that many locations normally see their busiest times during the late afternoon and early evening.

In Eastchester, voters were out in full force at area polling locations.  saw a small turnout in the morning hours but expect things to pick up as the day wears on


Lisa Denali of Eastchetser shared that this year is the first time she has voted in many years.

"I just said to myself, you know, it's time to take a more active role in what happens in Eastchester," said Denali.

At , things were much busier as voters streamed in and out since the early morning, some of which rushed to cast their vote before catching their morning train to the city.

"I've got 10 minutes to vote and then catch my train" said one gentleman who ran into the middle school and then headed into Manhattan for work.

Lots of parents walked into the polling locations with their kids, some of whom had the day off from school. Rosetta Cuervas brought her 10 year-old son Mathew with her to vote.

"I bring him every year and hopefully with him seeing me vote every year, he'll want to vote as an adult," said Cuervas

At the , organizers there summed up the voter turnout as "mild" and arriving by taxi, Austin Murro who just turned 74 in October says that if he can make it out to vote, everyone else should too.

"I try to always vote, even at my age, so if I can do it, younger adults hopefully will find time today to vote too," he remarked.

A very strong turnout could also be seen at , where voters young and old could be seen streaming out of the building around noon.

Adam Bertocci, an election inspector at the location said that this evening should be the biggest crowd of voters for the day and joked that, "you can always tell who walked the fastest from the metro north station," refering to the stream of commuters that go directly from the train to the polling station to cast their ballots.
