Tuckahoe's Crestwood Getting a Makeover

The Crestwood train station area in Tuckahoe will be getting a new look soon. One of the most noticeable differences will be something that practically no Westchester village has, buried power lines. Officials have wanted to bury the unsightly power lines for about a decade. Now, they are finally going to be able to get rid of the power lines with the help of an Empire State Development grant and money from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The final $400,000 for burying the lines will come from a developer, who will be building a three-story apartment building next to the train station.

"The power lines that will be put underground are going to run along Columbus Avenue," said Village of Tuckahoe Mayor Steve Ecklond. "It's the final phase of a Crestwood streetscape project that started a little over ten years ago."

The new apartment building will be called Crestwood Station Plaza. It will be built on the sites of two former gas stations on Columbus Avenue. There will be a total of 43 apartments in the building. Rent will be around $2,000 per month.

Officials hope to have the project finished by the end of the year.
