Tuckahoe Honors Retiring DPW Workers

A presentation and plaque from the Village Board was given to Raymond Palma and Melvin Banks for their 30 plus years of service to the Village of Tuckahoe.

Having been life long residents of the Village, Raymond Palma and Melvin Banks held their heads high as the Village Board commended the two Department of Public Works employees for their combined 63 years of service to the Village during this month's board meeting.

Palma and Banks both worked as drivers along the South-end of the Village for 31 and 32 years respectively and many residents have come to know the two gentlemen by name.

"I spent many mornings where the first person I saw as I got out to my car was Melvin and we had many life conversations right on my street," recalled Trustee Greg Luisi who along with the rest of the Board, thanked the men whole heartedly for their years of service to the Village.

Palma also served as the Shop Steward and played an important role in making the department run cost effectively and logistically.

"These guys are tremedous workers and are simply a testament to the department as a whole," said Frank DiMarco, Supervisor of Public Works.

In his blunt and uncanny way, Banks addressed the board and the residents saying that, "Tuckahoe is one of the greatest places to live and work," then turning to the board and asked jokingly, "so are you guys handing out checks?"

Both men plan to stay in the Village and are looking forward to their retirement.
