Senator Latimer Named Ranking Minority Member on Senate Education Committee

A press release from State Senator George Latimer's office.

State Senator George Latimer has been named the Ranking Minority Member on the State Senate’s Education Committee, his office announced today.  Latimer will now be the leading advocate for the Democrats on educational issues in the New York State Senate.  Senator John Flanagan of Long Island is currently the Chairman of the Education Committee.

“All of the school districts in Westchester accurately represent a cross section of the rest of New York in my opinion.  Every school district has unique needs and deserves an advocate that will keep the best interests of our children in mind and I am confident that my background, experience and knowledge of the needs of Westchester students has appropriately prepared me for this assignment.  I am very grateful to our Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for giving me this appointment and I look forward to working with Senator Flanagan, school districts and other education advocates as we fight for the true next generation of our State,” stated Senator George Latimer

Latimer also received assignments to other committees including Environmental Conservation and Local Government.  During Latimer’s time in the Assembly he served on both committees and has extensive background and familiarity with the subject matter involved with these committees and intends to help shape those public policy areas.  Latimer was also assigned to the Consumer Protection, Mental Health and Racing, Gaming and Wagering committees, the latter of which will be critical as the State is in the process of legalizing full-fledged casino gambling.

Latimer stated, “Serving at different levels of government has given me unique opportunities to advocate for my constituents on a wide range of issues and individual concerns.  Moving from the Assembly to the Senate, gives me an opportunity to continue working on some issues and also gives me a chance to grow as a public official expand my own base of knowledge to be the best supporter for my constituents that I could possibly be.”

Suzanne, we all support teachers, just not the teachers union like George does. And I personally like to see the Dems. have the majority in the senate, then we'd all be reminded why we through them out in the 1st place. We'll see how far Andrew tacks left with his new majorities.

Joe, have you ever met Latimer? Or spoken with him? Or asked him any questions? "Latimer is part of that ilk" sounds like you know nothing of him and are expressing your preformed opinions on Democrats in general.

You haven't got a clue about what teachers have to deal with. They need that union to represent them when some thug hits them ( happened to a friend of mine, not a millionaire either). And, Stuy guy is right. You don't hve any experience with George. He was outspent 3:1. People who knew him came out to get him elected because he is contstiuent driven. You just keep spewing that Drudge-Hannity-Limpbaugh stuff. Cuomo is no lefty, I think he's a closet REpub. Show the numbers. The idea that your taxes are all about teaachers is lame. It is Albany's unfunded mandates, a ridiculous tax stucture. You a Millionaire? Coumo and the Repub Senate sunset the Millionaire's Surcharge. That money would help out right about now -- 4.5 BILLION/ YEAR. There's a lot wrong in Albany. George will work hard and won't rely on buzz-word-bumper-sticker BS to do it.

Sorry for the misspelled words. It's late.

The apple never falls far from the tree though. And he's already introduced a couple of taxes for New Rochelle so I'd say Joe's correct.
