Luxury Lofts Coming to 'Bronkers'

A Rockland-based company is moving ahead with its bid to turn the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. building on Palmer Road into luxury condos.

WY Management L.L.Cof Nyack plans to call it Metloft, "a rental complex with 61 loft-style apartments, a two-level indoor parking garage, rooftop common area, indoor pool and fitness center," all within walking distance of the village, according to Insurancenewsnet.com.

The sought-after area sometimes referred to as "Bronkers," is within a stone's throw of Bronxville's shopping and dining center (and sometimes shares its P.O. address) but carries the comparatively more affordable real estate prices of the city of Yonkers.

The plans are to keep the historic facade at the 759 Palmer Road building.

TaxWatch, the work of Journal News' tax watchdog David McKay Wilson, reported late last year that the Yonkers Industrial Development Agency approved "$546,238 in sales tax exemptions on construction materials and a $378,000 mortgage tax exemption on the purchase of the property" and had authorized staff to negotiate a property tax abatement.
