Latimer and Cohen Debate the Issues in Eastchester

Hundreds of residents fill the auditorium at Eastchester High School Thursday evening for a student-run debate between Assemblyman George Latimer-(D) and Bob Cohen-(R).

With 10 days left until election day, Assemblyman George Latimer-(D) and Bob Cohen-(R) debated the issues that students from Eastchester High School felt were the most important to the community Thursday evening as both men are seeking the 37th Congressional State Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Suzi Oppenheimer.

The debate was being sponsored by the Eastchester High School Student Government Organization (EGO), students in the AP Government class, members of the Political Science Club, and the Eastchester PTA Council.

A student from each of the sponsoring student groups had a chance to submit a question to the candidates and EHS Principal Dr. Jeffrey Capuano was proud of the initiative he saw the students and teachers take in bringing the debate to EHS.

"This debate is a great service to the community and perhaps more importantly, the students are taking an active role in government and will remember this experience for years to come," stated Capuano.
