Eastchester to Become Sister City with Ruvo Di Puglia

The Sister City relationship will be formally announced tomorrow and the program allows for communities to exchange ideas on civic government and to learn from both cities cultures.

Many places in Westchester participate in the Sister City Program and now Eastchester will be getting one of her own as the Town has announced it's participation in the program with Ruvo di Puglia in the province of Bari, Italy.

On Wednesday Aug. 22 at 10:30 a.m., Supervisor Anthony Colavita will meet with Luciano Lamonarca in the Eastchester Town Hall Community Room to announce the Sister City relationship according to a press release sent out by the Town of Eastchester.

Mr. Lamonarca is a world renowned tenor who is also currently the President of the Puglia Center of America.

The Sister City program allows communities to exchange ideas, gain an international perspective and increase their understanding of global issues.  It can also lead to economic growth, increased tourism and reliable business contacts.

There will be many events planned in the coming year to promote the Sister City program.  Mr. Lamonarca will be performing at the Lake Isle Columbus Day Carnival on Sunday Oct. 7.

The Puglia Center is having their Annual Gala and awards ceremony at Lake Isle on Friday, Nov. 9.

There will also be a delegation of visitors from Ruvo di Bari in April of next year and at that time, Town officials say that other events will be planned.
