Construction Moves Along in Tuckahoe

In what has been a long and challenging project for both engineers and the residents of Tuckahoe, it looks as if Yonkers Ave. will eventually be returning to Village residents.

Project Manager Karen Ashton reported in her weekly announcement that equipment has been mobilized, the site is being prepped, pre-construction meetings have been held, prep meetings have been conducted and surveys are being performed by the new subcontractor, Posillico, all in anticipation of starting a lot of noisy construction on Monday, Sept. 10. 

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey approved one last piece of equipment to cross the George Washington Bridge Monday morning, resuming construction and putting the time table of completion at about eight weeks.

Ashton also pointed out that last week, the New York District’s Commander, Colonel Boule was on site to meet with Mayor Ecklond to provide his support in completing the project in an efficient and safe manner and to ensure the timely re-opening of Yonkers Avenue for the Village of Tuckahoe.

The project is designed to provide long term erosion protection of the streambank which helps stabilize Yonkers Avenue.
