Tuckahoe Man Dies in Southeast Crash Sunday

Officials say speed does not appear to have been a factor.

A 69-year-old Tuckahoe man died Sunday afternoon after an accident that involved a motorcycle and an SUV, according to police.

Members of the  and troopers from the responded to the crash. It occurred on Milltown Road near Green Acres Lane, around 2:20 p.m.

Authorities say Tuckahoe resident Noel DeGaetano, 69, was headed west on a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja. As he negotiated a turn in the roadway, he apparently lost control of the bike, which collided with an eastbound 2006 Toyota RAV4, according to officials.

DeGaetano, who was reportedly wearing a helmet, was pronouced dead at the scene by a Putnam County Coroner, police said. The driver of the Toyota, a 42-year-old New Fairfield, CT resident, was not injured.

"We're still trying to figure out why this happened," Sgt. David Claytor of the state police said.

Officials closed the road and investigated at the scene for more than three hours following the crash. Speed does not appear to have been a factor, Claytor told Patch. Police do not believe either driver was in an impaired state.
