Two men were arrested on felony drug charges early Friday morning after leading police on a brief chase through downtown White Plains, police say.
The driver of the vehicle also faces a driving while intoxicated charge.
Police identified the alleged driver as 26-year-old Leon Keith of 1043 Morris Ave., in the Bronx. Police say Keith and 28-year-old Craig Fitzpatrick, who lives at the same address, had cocaine and heroin in their vehicle when police attempted to stop them at the intersection of S Broadway and Martine Ave. at about 4:15 a.m.
Police in the area noticed Keith slam on his breaks when he reached the intersection, then leave the vehice to yell at someone nearby, according to an arrest report. Believing the vehicle had been left unattended, police drove over to investigate, according to an arrest report .
As police approached, they say Keith got back into the vehicle and drove through a red light onto eastbound Martine Ave. Police say they followed Keith's vehicle into the parking garage at 237 Martine Ave., where they saw the driver toss an object from the window.
Keith eventually parked the car in the basement of the garage and was stopped while walking away. Police say they could smell alcohol and marijuana and that Keith appeared intoxicated. Officers also found a bag containing 14.96 grams of heroin and 19.22 grams of cocaine in the garage they believe was tossed from Keith's car. A search of Keith's vehicle also yielded a bag of marijuana that was hidden in the center console, police say.
Police say they found an additional 4.59 grams of cocaine hidden inside of Fitzpatrick's boxers. Fitzpatrick was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third-degree, felonies.
Keith was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies, driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation and was cited for traffic violations.
Both men were held for court.
