A Connecticut man who was found asleep behind the wheel of a running car in Port Chester has been charged with drunken driving, according to Port Chester Police.
Police said it took repeated attempts by village officers to wake up Angel Duchimaza, 37, of 66 Catoona Lane, Stamford, CT, as he was behind the wheel of a green Buick stopped at Poningo Street and Irving Avenue at 2 a.m. Saturday. When Duchimaza did wake up, the car lurched forward — going through a red light, nearly hitting a taxi and then hitting a curb.
No one was injured in the incident.
Police said Duchimaza was charged with driving while intoxicated and he was cited for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and going through a red light.
Duchimaza faces a hearing in Port Chester Village Court.
