Police Arrest Bank Manager For Stealing Cash

A manager at Tarrytown Centre's Chase Bank was arrested on a grand larceny charge after allegedly stealing over $1,000 from a customer's wallet.

A manager at Tarrytown Centre’s Chase Bank was arrested on charges of stealing over $1,000 from a bank customer’s wallet.

A woman reported on October 2 that she had left her wallet on a couch at the Wildey Street Chase bank location. Someone from the bank called her to tell her they had the wallet but by the time the woman got there, the bank was closed for the night.

The next day, she apparently recovered her wallet, only to find it was missing the $1,050 cash it had in it.

The detective division of the Tarrytown Police Department reviewed the bank’s surveillance tapes in which “it appeared as though he [the man identified as a bank manager] was doing something that did not look right,” said Lt. William Herguth.

Police interviewed the bank manager and “he then admitted he did take the money,” Herguth said.

Javier A. Echeverria, 28, of the Bronx, was arrested on a count of grand larceny in the fourth degree (for theft exceeding $1,000) on October 10 at 10:02 a.m. He was arraigned that morning and released for a court date of October 31.

If convicted, he could face one to four years in State Prison, said Herguth.
