Police Accuse Two of Trying to Climb the Tappan Zee Bridge

The Nyack Fire Department and state police hurredly searched the Tappan Zee Bridge around 2:30 a.m. this morning after receiving a report of two men attempting to climb the bridge.

The New York State Thruway Authority helped with the search.

Minutes later, police said, troopers located two people walking along the deck of the bridge.

They were arrested and transported to the state police barracks in Tarrytown.

Their statements revealed the stunt was an attempt to take pictures from the bridge, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

The two, one a 27-year-old from Rego Park, NY, and the other, 28, of Woodside, NY were processed and charged with the following:

  • Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, Class A Misdemeanor
  • Criminal Trespass in the 3rd Degree, Class B Misdemeanor
  • Pedestrian on State Highway, Traffic Infraction

  • The men were released on bail and issued Appearance Tickets ordering them to appear in the Town of Greenburgh Court May 6.
