Eastchester Officer Injured During Melee at Immaculate Conception

A fight involving several teenagers broke out Friday evening, which led to several arrests and an Eastchester Police officer being sent to the hospital.

held their annual carnival this weekend and while most of the days were enjoyed by all who attended, the latter part of Friday evening turned violent in the blink of an eye.

According to Tuckahoe Police, a fight broke out involving several teenagers at about 9:30 p.m. and when officers from Tuckahoe and Eastchester attempted to break up the melee, a 16 year-old boy injured an Eastchester police officer, who subsequently needed to be treated at a local hospital.

That teenager has been charged with assault and resisting arrest according to Tuckahoe police Sgt. Chris Aubry.

It is unclear how many kids were involved in the fight, but an eyewitness who was at the carnival and who wished to remain anonymous described the events as follows:

The fight Friday night initially started when two teenagers approx 15-17 years-old began having a conversation that escalated into a heated discussion.

Within approx 15 minutes, the group of people around the boys grew from 15-20 to over 40 and it was at this time that officers onsite were notified of the situation.

The crowd, now of 50 or more boys, immediately migrated to the opposite end of the carnival as soon as they saw police walking towards them and there appeared to be a fight at this time as all police headed to the area were the crowed migrated.

While all officers on-site attempted to deal with the situation at the far end of the carnival, another crowd formed in the center of the carnival (30+ teenagers) where two females approximately 16 years-old started arguing and over a period of approximately 5-10 minutes, the argument escalated into a physical fight involving four female teenagers that lasted briefly before the officers could disperse the crowd.

It was at this time the police announced that the carnival was now closed and with the carnival closed and all customers now in the parking lot area another fight broke out that involved no less than 10 teenage males in a  group of 75 or more teenagers.

This fight lasting briefly, appeared to be the last as multiple police vehicles arrived on-site from varies police agencies.

Patch was unable to make contact with Immaculate Conception Church but will be following up to get reaction from this weekend's events.

Another incident took place that same night where a 15 year-old girl was hospitalized for excessive alcohol consumption, the girl was a Yonkers resident. Also, MTA reported noise disturbances on the trains departing from Tuckahoe that evening and even had to dismiss a few passengers at the Mount Vernon West station.

It is a shame that these brats have to ruin the fun for all others. I hope ICS does not decide to cancel having the fair.....but maybe to close it earlier so that the teenagers will not go. It seems they tend to go after 7pm (me having a 16 year old). Maybe instead of closing at 10 or 11pm they should end the fair at at 8 or 9pm. I took my 1 year old this weekend on Saturday at around 3:30 pm and it was such a pleasant crowd and not to crowded. He could not enjoy the rides but hopefully he will be able to next year. This was my first time going to ICS fair and I have been to others (St. Barts, Christ the king and few others in Yonkers) and ICS's fair is by far the best. Hope they don't cancel their events due to these teenagers that don't have manners or respect for others!

How about not allowing minors at all without supervision? It's a shame that it has to come to this. These kids and their parents should all be punished for their disrespectful and disgusting behavior. It's a church fair!!

I agree with KimD that there needs to be adult supervision. If they come without an adult they are not allowed on the premises.

Supervision sounds good to me and certainly better than a full cancellation of future events.

This is coming from the perspective of a teenager:
Yes, supervision would be a viable solution, but the supervisors would probably end up being older friends of the carnival-goers. And also, no teenager that I know of would want their parents following them everywhere they go. I was at the fair for those two fights, but I myself was not involved. Closing early would also mean that the teenagers could/would go somewhere else and do something worse, such as drugs. I think the only solutions that would work successfully are having more police officers at the fair, an admission charge with a wristbad/hand stamp that signifies that one has paid and is allowed to attend the fair, and having to show photo I.D. in order to get in. I know that Eastchester High School provides them, but I'm not so sure about the other high schools. I do agree that the kids who fought were jerks in the fact that they ruined the fun for everyone else, and I also think that it is rather annoying when people stereotype teenagers. To Mrs. Mom: closing earlier would not solve anything, since the teenagers would just go to the fair earlier. Thank you for letting me voice my opinion. Sincerely, A Teenager

Restricting admission like that seems a bit unfair, especially to local kids who probably cause no trouble at all. It might even make a situation worse if a group of these kids shows up trying to get in. Maybe a simple schedule change will help. Not having the Carnival on a Friday night would probably hurt the profit, but you might avoid some trouble.

Well, then they would have to open on a Saturday, which leaves another open door for teenagers. Another solution could be Sunday, but that would not be as popular.

IT IS A SHAME THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS SHOULD BREAK OUT AT A CHURCH FUNCTION!
