Former Teacher Involved with 14-year-old Pleads Guilty to Rape

Then an Eastchester resident, she had sex with a student she had met while a religious studies teacher at Archbishop Stepinac High School.

Former Eastchester resident  Amanda Iles pleaded guilty on March 10 to second-degree rape, in connection with a brief sexual relationship she had with a 14-year-old Archbishop Stepinac High School student, the Westchester District Attorney's office said.

Sentencing is May 27. She faces shock probation—six months in jail and 10 years of sex-offender probation. She will have to register as a sex offender, the DA's office said.

Iles had been a teacher of religious studies at the Catholic boys' prep school in White Plains. She worked there for the 2012-13 school year and resigned, telling school officials she was moving to California.

Authorities said the sexual encounters took place between June 11 and July 14, 2013, after school had ended for the summer.

The relationship was uncovered by the victim’s parents. Iles, who had indeed moved to California, turned herself in to Eastchester police.

“As a teacher, this defendant was in a position of trust and authority,” Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said in a statement at the time of the arrest. “In becoming involved with a student incapable of consent, she abused that privilege. Multi-jurisdictional detective work by police quickly led to the identification and arrest of the defendant.”
