The JCC of Mid-Westchester is closed Thursday due to a fire that started in the men's locker room sauna Wednesday evening.

New Rochelle Fire Chief Louis DiMeglio said the fire is still under investigation.

"We got the call about 5:31 p.m.," he said, adding that it took about an hour to bring the blaze under control.

DiMeglio said there was a lot of smoke because the fire was up in the ceiling. Twenty-five fire firefighters responded to the scene.

An alert posted on the JCC's Web site said the building was immediately evacuated with no injuries and that the facility will be closed Thursday with all programs cancelled.

Executive Director Karen Kolodny said she was grateful the fire was contained to the locker room and that everyone was safe.

"The JCC takes great pride in the safety and security measures that are in place and is closing the facility (Thursday) as an extra precaution so that appropriate steps can be taken to return to full programming as soon as possible."

The JCC is located at 999 Wilmot Rd. in New Rochelle.
