Refrain From Driving, Walking in Bronxville

Bronxville Chief of Police Christopher Satriale issued a statement Monday evening on the state of Bronxville as the brunt of Hurricane Sandy passes through.

The following was written by Bronxville Chief of Police Christopher Satriale.

THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS URGING RESIDENTS TO REMAIN HOME AND REFRAIN FROM DRIVING OR WALKING ON VILLAGE ROADWAYS.

WE HAVE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS LIVE WIRES, LIMBS, BRANCHES AND TREES DOWN MAKING TRAVEL THROUGHOUT THE VILLAGE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO GET WORSE THROUGHOUT THE EVENING WITH HIGH WINDS CONTINUING. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM UNNECESSARY TRAVEL UNTIL WE CAN PROPERLY ASSESS THE DAMAGE AND PERFORM NECESSARY CLEAN UP.

WE ALREADY HAVE NUMEROUS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE VILLAGE WHERE LIVE WIRES ARE DOWN ON ROADWAYS AND PRIVATE PROPERTY. CON EDISON WILL NOT RESPOND UNTIL THE HIGH WINDS SUBSIDE.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HOME OR PLACE OF SHELTER UNLESS IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AS IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO BE WALKING OR DRIVING IN THE VILLAGE.

WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES HAVE ADDED TO THE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS AS DOWNED WIRES CANNOT BE SEEN AND NUMEROUS TRAFFIC SIGNALS ARE DOWN.

WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF CLOSING MANY ROADWAYS AND CONTINUE TO RESPOND TO ADDITIONAL TREES AND WIRES DOWN.

YOUR COOPERATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

CHIEF CHRISTOPHER SATRIALE
