Bomb Squad Recovers Grenades from Home

Darien and Stamford police responded and took possession of the explosives, which didn't appear to be live.

Darien Police reported Monday that hand grenades were discovered at an Old Kings Highway South residence over the weekend.

According to police, the homeowner indicated he owned a pile of scrap metal to which friends and neighbors would occasionally contribute. Once the pile reached a certain size, the homeowner would trade the scrap in for cash, police said.

At approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, the homeowner reported he discovered two hand grenades in the pile and called the police and Darien Fire Department. A perimeter was established and the Stamford Police Department Bomb Squad was contacted.
