Village Lutheran Church Vicar “Delivers God’s Love.”

Bronxville, NY- On Saturday January 25, 2014, Village Lutheran Church’s Vicar Morris Mayer joined local Christian Radio personalities, to serve at a Brooklyn soup kitchen. The opportunity to serve alongside Scott & Kelli of KLove radio along with a group of six volunteers was won, after Vicar Mayer entered an on air contest. Rev. Dr. Robert Hartwell, Senior Pastor of the Village Lutheran Church was excited for his fellow clergyman’s opportunity. "Christian radio is a wonderful way to stay immersed in the message of God's love each week. We were excited and proud to see Vicar Mayer working with K-Love as they also seek to serve in the local community."

The group volunteered at “God’s Love We Deliver” from one until four. The day started with an information session about the organization and a video on kitchen safety. "The mission of God's Love We Deliver is to improve the health and well-being of men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses by alleviating hunger and malnutrition,” said a spokesperson for the organization. While there they wrapped hundreds of fresh rolls and helped package high quality meals.  The meals were then delivered to people, who due to illness are unable to provide or prepare a meal for themselves.  The meals lessen the burden for those who are suffering with everything from HIV to terminal cancer. “I was amazed to learn how many meals are delivered each day,” stated Mayer. The organization also provides illness-specific nutrition education and counseling to their clients. All of the services are provided by the organization free of charge. When asked about their time spent volunteering, Scott & Kelli stated, “It was an honor to work side by side with the folks from God's Love We Deliver. They live out "Little things don't mean a lot. Little things mean everything,"” According to their website, over twelve million meals of “God’s Love” have been delivered. “God’s Love We Deliver” is a non-sectarian organization that is assisted by nearly 8,000 volunteers each year.  “They do this, at dawn and at dusk, in the bitter cold and the sweltering heat; giving the gift of their hearts and their time to deliver 4,000 meals each weekday, to clients in all five boroughs, and New Jersey. No one has ever been turned away for any reason.” (www.glwd.org)
