Ruth K. Macreery, 94, Former Bronxville High School, Smith College Graduate

Ruth K. Macreery, 94, of Granite Springs, NY, recently died at her home following a brief illness and surrounded by loving family. She was born in Washington, DC on August 5, 1919, the daughter of Otto E. Koegel and Rae Fisher Koegel.

She graduated from Bronxville High School and then Smith College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in music. During World War II, she was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. When the War ended she married John B Macreery of Watkins Glen, NY where they lived for a short time before moving to Westchester County, NY.

She was active in community and charitable service throughout her life. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Katherine M. and Ronald L. Weyhrauch, William Frank and Abbey Kelley Macreery, John Brian and Linda Calabrese Macreery and Kevin Owens and Kiersten Roberts Macreery, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, and by her two brothers, James E. Koegel and William F. Koegel.

She was devoted to her family and her friends, and will be sorely missed by all.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Granite Springs, NY on July 12, 2014 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Lung Association.
