Final Farewell for Bronxville's Frances Cambere

102-year-old Frances Cambere was part of the very first graduating class of Sarah Lawrence College.

 

Friends and family are remembering Frances Cambere today. The former Bronxville resident died at the Waterview Hills Nursing Home in Putnam County Thursday. She was born in 1910 to Emanuel and Carmela Cuzzi.

The 102-year-old was part of the very first graduating class of Sarah Lawrence College, where she majored in liberal arts. While attending Sarah Lawrence, she played tennis, golf and was active in fencing.

For many years, Cambere worked for the Seas Shipping Company of New York. The company owned and operated trade cargo ships across the globe.

In 1971, she married her husband, Ara Cambere.

Cambere is survived by her step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and her 11 nieces and seven nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Kennedy of Saranac Lake, her stepchildren, Yvonne Cambere, Sandy Mumbach, Peter Cambere, Kathy Muller, John Cambere and Rick Cambere.

A viewing will be held Friday at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah, from 4 to 8 p.m. Cambere's mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Croton Falls. The burial service will be held afterwards at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle.
