Edward Joseph Malits, 85, Retired Eastchester Firefighter

Edward Joseph Malits died in the early morning hours of January 20, 2014 at the age of 85. Eddie was born in North Hampton, PA on December 16, 1928 to the late Edward and Johanna (nee Marx) Malits. He later relocated to the Bronx, where he grew up. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and served in the United States Army (1948-1953) and is a combat veteran having served in Korea.

Eddie married the love of his life, Patricia Boyle, in 1956. They moved to Eastchester, NY where they made their home and raised their family. Patricia passed away in 1997.

Eddie proudly served the Town of Eastchester as a Professional Firefighter from 1962 until his retirement in 1990. Eddie was an avid sports fan, especially of the New York Rangers.

He is survived by his children Victoria (William) Addesso, Edward (Sheila Burke) Malits, Deborah DiGiacomo, Theresa (Christina Drago) Malits; his four grandsons, Billy Jr. and Andrew DiGiacomo, Billy and Steven Addesso.

He was preceded in death by his only sibling, Anna Malits Zapka in 1996 and his son-in-law William DiGiacomo in 2011. 

The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Thursday - January 23, 2014 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday - January 24, 2014 at 10:00 am at Westchester Funeral Home, Inc., Eastchester. Interment to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
