Eastchester's Helen Burns Dead at 88

Burns' children and grandchildren in Eastchester will be among those remembering a life that meant so much to so many people.

Friends and family will be saying a final farewell to Helen Burns on Thursday. The former Eastchester resident passed away on February 10 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. Burns had been living in Vero Beach, Florida.

Burns' memorial service will talke place Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale. The mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale.

Burns was born on December 14, 1924 in Manhattan to her parents Paul and Katalin Bago. She went to Hunter High School and then attended Hunter College. She married her husband, John, in 1950.

Burns was predeceased by her husband and she is survived by her children, J. Randolph of New York City, Lauren Burns of Vero Beach, Florida and Lynette Mariani and her husband Peter of Eastchester. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lyndsey and PJ. Mariani of Eastchester and Larissa and Lia Ferretti of Vero Beach, according to Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home.

Instead of flowers, those who knew Burns can send their donations to Westchester Putnam Hospice in Tarrytown or Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.
