Honors Dinner at Alvin & Friends, New Rochelle

Last night I attended the Westchester Young Democrats Dinner at Alvin & Friends in New Rochelle.  In honor of Black History Month, the WYD's honored Yonkers City Councilman, Christopher A. Johnson, and New Rochelle City Councilman, Jared Rice, as young African-American men in public service.
What I enjoyed most about the event was hearing from the honorees, who both shared stories about their families and their own personal experiences of why they wanted to spend their lives serving the public.
I spoke with Jared Rice, who is an Attorney at Rice & Rice Attorneys at Law, and who also sits on the Board of Directors as Legal Counsel for my organization, Operation PROM.
"It was quite an honor to be recognized by my peers for the hard work I have put in over the years.  It was especially gratifying for it to come from the Westchester Young Democrats as they are at the vanguard of advocating for social change here in our community," said Rice.
Both Rice (now 34), and Johnson (28), are excellent examples of young people working to make a difference in their communities.
Now, on to the food!  This was my 2nd visit to Alvin & Friend's.  If you have not been there yet, shame on you!  The ambiance and environment is warm and inviting.  A live jazz band was performing when we arrived.  The dinner was in the back private room, where there was plenty of seating for about 75 guests.  For dinner, they served a delicious salad of mixed greens, corn bread, and probably the most amazing fried chicken, collard greens, and mac & cheese I've ever had.  I highly recommend it!  Alvin stopped in to the party and was very kind as he welcomed all the guests to his restaurant.  I will be back for sure.
