Manhattanville Hockey Teams Remain in National Rankings

Both Manhattanville hockey teams remained in the national rankings for the third straight week, according to the USCHO and D3hockey.com polls released on Monday.

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Both Manhattanville hockey teams remained in the national rankings for the third straight week despite both dropping a game last week, as the Valiants will finish the 2012 calendar year ranked according to the latest national polls released by USCHO.com and D3hockey.com on Monday.
The Valiant women's team held steady at #6 in the latest D3hockey.com poll, actually gaining one vote in the process, while also moving up spot to seventh in the USCHO.com national poll  On the men's side, Manhattanville fell two spots in both national rankings, dropping to 14th in the D3hockey.com poll and 15th in the USCHO.com poll.
The women's team dropped its only game of the week, but the team was not penalized in the rankings as it came at the hands of top-ranked Plattsburgh State on Friday. The Valiants held a 1-0 lead through two periods against the #1 Cardinals, but could not sustain the momentum in the final stanza and fell by a 3-1 score. Senior assistant captain Sonia Occhionero (Montreal, Quebec/Kent School (Conn.)) had the lone goal for Manhattanville.
The men's team split its two games against NESCAC competition last week, defeating Connecticut College by a 5-3 score on Tuesday before dropping a 3-1 decision to Trinity (Conn.) on Friday night. Against the Camels, the line of senior Scott Hudson (St. Albert, Alta./Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL)), junior Luc Van Natter (Fort Erie, Ont./Aurora Tigers (OPJHL)) and freshman Matt Coleman (Brentwood, N.Y./Springfield Pics (EJHL)) combined for eight points on three goals and five assists, while sophomore Alex Scola (Exeter, N.H./Woodstock Slammers (MJHL)) earned his second win of the year by making 32 saves. Sophomore Mark Rivera (Belmar, N.J./Springfield Pics (EJHL)) gave the Valiants a 1-0 lead on Friday at Trinity, but the Bantams scored the final three goals of the game to eke out the victory.
Both Manhattanville teams will be off for the next few weeks due to finals and the holiday break. The Manhattanville men (8-2-1) return to action at the Middlebury Holiday Classic on December 30-31, beginning with a 1 p.m. game against Wentworth on December 30. The Valiant women (6-3-1) are not back on the ice until after New Year's, when the travel north for single games against nationally ranked Elmira and Utica on January 4-5.
