"1 Billion Rising!!" Hearts dance as young women show solidarity and support against violence!

Women unite to create awareness about violence!

On Valentine's Day, most teenagers are busy listening to popular love songs and buying presents for their boyfriends. But the young women at Our Lady of Good Counsel Academy High School in White Plains, NY and their Dance Coach, recently participated in the  "1 Billion Rising" event and action against violence. This organization advocates for women who are affected by physical and emotional abuse inflicted by people in their lives. Their mission is to empower women to stand on their own, and be strong enough to close the door on violence. To benefit their mission, the members of the GCA Dance Club, learned choreography by Debbie Allen, that many other women around the world also learned. Each move symbolizes a motion against violence, and the song used, Break the Chain, stands perfectly for this cause. Everyone around the globe (including the GCA girls), participated in filming their dance in their own unique way, and posting it online to show the unison in women standing up against violence. Good Counsel Academy was honored to be apart of such a widespread movement against an important cause.
