What's Up With That?: Eastchester Water Main Project

After the burst water main on White Plains Rd. near Lake Isle caused all sorts of headaches two months ago, Patch wants to know when the project will be completed.

Eastchester residents have not soon forgotten the across from Lake Isle, not only causing traffic tie ups but more importantly, causing property damage and disruptions in gas and water service throughout town.

Even still are the daily reminders we all deal with when traveling on White Plains Rd. and traffic is forced to merge, creating a bottle neck of congestion during rush hour and as summer approaches with the impending opening of Lake Isle, residents concern over when the project will be completed have mounted.

According to Eastchester DPW, all work on the water main has been completed as of this past Monday Apr. 2.

The entire project is being managed by Westchester Joint Water Works (WJWW) and Business Director David Birdsall says that the next step will be to monitor the newly restored water main to ensure it's functionality.

"Were going to observe the main to make sure there are no residual issues and we expect next week we'll begin the process of the restoration of the entire area," said Birdsall.

The exact timing of when the project would be completed was difficult for Birdsall to predict, but the best case scenario he says could be as early as the end of April for the re-installation of the traffic signal by DOT and for White Plains Rd. to become once again unrestricted.
