What's Up With That?: Commuter Pigeons in Bronxville

Among the masses that make their way to the Bronxville Train Station each morning are the pigeons, who have seemed to find a home beneath the busy tracks of the Harlem Line.

 

Many have probably noticed over the years that despite the noice, the vibrations and the hustle and bustle, many pigeons have made a home beneath the tracks of the Harlem Line in Bronxville.

The village has made some attempts to curb the pigeons by installing spikes in spots to keep them from nesting.

Bridigate Medina, who lives in the development on Midland Ave. says that the birds are kind of a nuisance and create a mess everywhere.

"I'm always afraid of getting hit in the head with you know what," she joked.

Still, more astounding than the mess is the resilience of the birds, who have found spots around the Pondfield Rd. underpass to make their home despite all of the deterrents.

If they can live with the trains that rumble overhead day and night, then I guess we'll have to live with the messes they tend to leave along the roadways and sidewalks.
