A Perspective of Bronxville From April 1959

In an article entitled "Perspective on Bronxville" written back in 1959 for Commentary Magazine, village resident David Cohen attempts to describe his vision of the suburban village, living in an apartment co-op in an area he describes as the intersection of Yonkers, Tuckahoe, and Bronxville.

"The atmosphere is friendly, although socializing tends to follow denominational lines. We pay our taxes to Yonkers, take the N.Y. Central railroad at Tuckahoe, and receive our mail through the courtesy of the Bronxville Post Office," remarks Cohen who continues that, "we use the same park, and when the river freezes over we skate on the same ice.

The article goes on to describe some of the Jewish owned businesses in Bronxville and the author speaks of his fears of "the new America" as he calls it and then changes that were taking place in the Village at the time.
