GoFundMe: Common Core Opponents Seek Funds for Speakers

Written by Ashley Tarr

The organizers of a Common Core forum scheduled for Feb. 4 are hoping concerned Lower Hudson Valley residents will pitch in and help cover the costs of the three speakers. And they've turned to the crowdfunding site GoFundMe to help raise the money.

Slated for 7:30 p.m. on the 4th, the event is happening at Cortlandt Colonial Restaurant (714 Old Albany Post Road). It's set to feature Peg Luksik, a teacher and education advocate; Mark Naison, a Fordham University president and an author; and Yvonne Gasperino, a mother of two and founder of “Stop Common Core in New York State."

"Please help to cover these speakers costs and raise awareness about the damages that Common Core is doing to our children," reads a Go Fund Me campaign launched on Dec. 16, 2013. As of Jan. 24, it's raised $615 toward the $1,500-goal.

Organizer Rachel Seaboldt called Luksik and Naison "power wheels in this grassroots movement" who are are "highly regarded."
